Many moons ago on Mother's Day, I was touched by the inspiration to write something about mothers, and this was the song that came through the ethers. A song to our original mother, Mother Earth, Pachamama as she is known in other parts of the world. In my language, she is known as "Inang Kalikasan" or Mother Nature.
This song captures my deep love for the Earth, and the beauty that she gifts us every day. The lyrics of the chorus "The Earth is our Mother, we must take care of her" is an old chant sang around a sacred fire.
lyrics
Om Gaia Om Pachamama
You are the wind
You are the sea
You are the fire
and the water in me
Your magnificent skies of blue
Through the air, oh I’m breathing you
You are the flowers
And we are of you
The Earth is our Mother
We must take care of her
The Earth is our Mother
We must take care of her
You are the light
You are the sweet rain
Your womb is my shelter
I’m forever in your embrace
You’re alive in the morning dew
All the birds singing songs of you
Your are the rivers
And we are of you
The Earth is our Mother
We must take care of her
The Earth is our Mother
We must take care of her
The glaciers and the mountains
The deserts and boulders too
The rainforest, the deepest blue
Wherever I look
All I could see is you
Om Gaia
Om Pachamama
We are of her,
and she's our own,
She's our own,
And we are of her.
